I love watching the NBA playoffs every year because gives me an appreciation of the unique combination of cognitive motor skills that these athletes have. They have the ability to make split second decisions while moving at fast speeds in ever changing environments. With this demand placed on these athletes there is no wonder why cognitive-motor training has been gaining popularity as a way to enhance performance on the court. That's why I'm excited to discuss the findings of a study that investigated the effects of cognitive-motor training on anticipatory brain functions and sport performance in semi-elite basketball players. The study, which included 20 semi-elite basketball players, showed that a 6-week cognitive-motor training program can improve anticipatory brain functions and sport performance in basketball players.
